Delivering Bespoke Aviation Fire Safety Training for One of Wales’ Leading Emergency Services
Since 2017, Tower Fire has worked in partnership with Wales Air Ambulance to develop and deliver a bespoke Fire Warden and Fire Safety Training programme specifically designed for air ambulance flight crews and operational personnel.
Unlike conventional workplace fire safety training, this programme was developed around the unique risks associated with helicopter operations, aircraft fires and aviation emergency procedures. Working closely with operational staff, Tower Fire created a completely bespoke course using photographs, layouts and procedures from the Wales Air Ambulance fleet to ensure every element of the training reflected real operational scenarios.
Today, the programme continues to be delivered across operational bases including Cardiff, Llanelli and Caernarfon, demonstrating the long-term success of this specialist training partnership.
Client Challenge
Aircraft present some of the most challenging fire safety risks in any workplace.
Pilots and operational crews require specialist knowledge that goes far beyond standard Fire Warden Training, including:

Practical Firefighting
Practical training includes the safe operation of firefighting equipment carried onboard aircraft together with equipment available at operational bases. Hands-on exercises ensure delegates gain confidence using extinguishers under instructor supervision.
Aerodrome Emergency Procedures
Training covers: Ground-based emergency service procedures, Communication during aircraft incidents, Coordinating with emergency responders, Initial actions before the arrival of the Fire & Rescue Service
Bespoke Course Development
Rather than using generic workplace examples, every presentation incorporates: Actual helicopter photographs, Aircraft layouts, Operational procedures, Client-specific emergency scenarios. This makes the training directly relevant to delegates’ day-to-day responsibilities.
