Why Fire Safety Training Is a Legal Requirement

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a clear duty on the responsible person to ensure every member of staff receives adequate fire safety training. Yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all staff to receive appropriate training, from general awareness for new starters to role-specific fire warden and fire marshal training.

On induction for new starters, then at least annually for fire wardens and marshals, and regularly for all other staff whenever there are changes to the premises or personnel.

Fire wardens manage evacuation and account for occupants. Fire marshals cover incident command, coordination across larger premises, and direct liaison with the fire service.
